MHBA MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
Advancing the Next Generation of Lawyers Today
The Maryland Hispanic Bar Association (MHBA) is proud to launch its newly formalized Mentorship Program, an initiative designed to strengthen and support the pipeline of Hispanic and/or Latinx legal professionals across Maryland.
This program advances MHBA’s mission to foster integrity, professionalism, leadership, and collaboration among attorneys while creating meaningful pathways for growth and advancement.
Program Overview and Goals
The program connects law students, entry-level attorneys (mentees) with experienced attorneys and/or judges (mentors).
Through structured one-on-one engagement and professional programming, the program provides:
Career guidance and strategic advice
Professional development support
Networking opportunities
Community building within the Maryland legal field
Eligibility & Requirements
Mentee Eligibility
Applicants must be:
A law student enrolled in any Maryland law school; or
An attorney practicing in Maryland for no more than two (2) years
Mentor Eligibility
Applicants must:
Have a minimum of five (5) years of legal practice
Be a member in good standing of the Maryland Bar and/or any U.S. bar
General Participation Requirements (All Applicants)
All Mentees and Mentors must:
Be current MHBA members
Commit to active engagement throughout the program
Respond promptly to communications (email or phone)
Complete a program evaluation at the conclusion of the program
Participate in committee check-ins to ensure program goals are met
One-on-One Meeting Requirement
Each mentor-mentee pair must complete a minimum of three (3) one-on-one meetings during the program period. These meetings are the foundation of the program and should focus on individualized professional growth and goal setting.
Professional Programming & Special Opportunities
In addition to individual mentoring sessions, the program will offer group programming and professional development events designed to enhance legal skills, leadership development, and collaboration.
Participants are strongly encouraged to attend MHBA professional development and networking events throughout the program period.
Once Mentees and Mentors are selected and paired, there will be a meet and greet event with the MHBA Executive Board.
Special Opportunity for Law Students
Law student participants will receive priority consideration to serve as student volunteers at the MHBA 2026 Annual Gala and will be able to attend at no cost. This event provides invaluable exposure to leaders within Maryland’s legal community and is the biggest MHBA event of the year.
